Helsinki, Finland (September 30, 2020) – With the advent of the next generation consoles, Umbra is glad to announce that its Visibility SDK will support the Microsoft’s new family of Xbox consoles – the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S will deliver the most performant, immersive and compatible next-generation console gaming experiences ever, and will be available beginning November 10.
Umbra’s Visibility SDK enables real-time rendering optimization through various spatial queries performed in runtime. The most widely used feature is software-based occlusion culling to determine object visibility from a given camera’s point of view. Other popular features include shadow mapping acceleration, audio propagation and server-side anti-cheat measures in the form of line of sight queries. Thanks to the powerful hardware of the upcoming Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, all of the above features function faster than ever before.
Umbra’s industry standard middleware enables developers to further push the limits of content creation. As the middleware is largely automated, artists can focus on what’s truly important – ever larger gaming worlds with insane amounts of graphical detail.
